Root Beer Float Project

by thekid on March 6, 2010

This is a Root Beer float project:

Here is how to do it:

  • First the ingredients: A cup, a spoon, Root Beer, and vanilla ice cream.
  • Now the recipe.  Put the cup on the table.  Put in root beer.  Add ice cream. Mix.  It will go to the top with bubbles.  Drink.
  • If you want to do it another way ask.   I will tell you another way.

What a good memory! Now, can you tell everyone WHY it foamed up the way it did and what gas was released? :)

I forgot. I just know 1 thing. It is CO2.

CO2 is correct! Good job!

The foaming is due to nucleation, which basically means a process where something comes into being by growing outward from a disturbance at its center. The root beer is “disturbed” by the ice cream and starts foaming! I <3 Science!
